Who is the Expat.com?

I’m so pleased you have found your way to the Expat.com, I’m Lisa and I have travelled extensively across Asia for over 17 years, I have also worked and lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.

lisakidsMuch of my experience as an expat needed to incorporate the needs and wellbeing of my young family, so I completely understand the concerns faced by individuals, couples, and families, that take the plunge to do something amazing!

People find themselves with expat status through a variety of routes, maybe a travel experience presented an opportunity that couldn’t be resisted, or maybe you, or your partner, were ‘posted’ abroad by an employer, possibly a dream job came up- and it just happened to be located at the other side of the world? Whatever your reason, it can be a real mix of excitement and fear all rolled up into one big adventure. However, I know, that once the packing boxes are stored away, and you start to get into a daily routine it is difficult to make sure you are getting the best out of your latest chapter- where are the best places to go, where are the best shops and services located, where is the nearest medical provision, and is it safe to use?

Simple things that we take for granted everyday at home can become a source of worry or frustration- but it doesn’t have to be like that. The best way to get local knowledge is to ask someone but being new to a community can be isolating, lonely, or just down-right confusing, which is why I wanted to share information and my experiences with you.

I know the issues that are important to get right to save you time, money, and sometimes, tears. When I look back on my years as part of the expat community, I wish someone had shared their first-hand knowledge with me, but now I can do that for you.

Why not take some time to explore our blogs which are stuffed to the brim with useful stuff about where to go, what to see, the best places to dine out, and we can even guide you to the best ways to make your money work for you; protecting your income and investments is paramount to your security while living abroad and for your repatriation to the UK.
